American Gold Eagles are the primary investment grade Gold coin produced by the United States. They have been produced since 1986 and come in both Uncirculated and Proof issue.
They have a $50 face value making them safe to use for IRAs. They come in the following sizes and weights:
1 ounce: Actual weight 1.09 troy ounces (33.9 grams) of 22 karat gold with the remainder being Silver and a small amount of copper. These contain 1 troy ounce of gold
1/2 ounce: Actual weight .5455 troy ounces (17 grams) of 22 karat gold with the remainder being Silver and a small amount of copper. These contain 1/2 (.5) troy ounce of gold
1/4 ounce: Actual weight .2727 troy ounces (8.5 grams) of 22 karat gold with the remainder being Silver and a small amount of copper. These contain 1/4 (.25) troy ounce of gold
1/10th ounce: Actual weight .109 troy ounces (3.4 grams) of 22 karat gold with the remainder being Silver and a small amount of copper. These contain 1/10th (.5) troy ounce of gold
